Fear not, – I have just the thing to liven up your day – today I am going to take you through the concept of reverse amortization and zero coupon bond yields – the best recipe to liven up your day after a long weekend.
No, don’t leave; I’m just kidding.
Ever since I read about Harley Davidson opening up a plant in India, I’ve been looking up luxury cars and bikes in India, and I thought I’d share them with you today to make a little bit of a light reading on this Monday after the long weekend.
Let’s start off with Harley Davidson then. They have a range of bikes, and at about Rs. 36 lakhs, this FLHTCUSE ULTRA CLASSIC ELECTRA GLIDE is the most expensive one.
Before you say – who will buy such expensive bikes? – They are on target to sell 200 – 250 bikes in the six months since they started selling bikes in July 2010, and are slated to get a reduction of up to 80% in import duties in the bike prices by setting up an assembling unit in India next year. So, you can expect increased awareness, slightly lower prices, and a greater dealer network, which should result in much bigger numbers next year.
And Rs. 36 lakhs will probably not even buy the tires of this next car I am about to mention. At Rs. 16 crores upwards – it is India’s most expensive car! Say hello to the Buggati Veyron.
This mean machine gets you from 0 – 100 kms/hour in 2.7 seconds, and at a top speed of 407 km/hr – it is claimed to be the fastest car allowed to run on normal roads!
Who will buy this you ask? I don’t know, but the company says there have been inquiries from 3 – 4 Indians globally.
This reminded me of Mercedes Maybach which was launched a few years ago with much fanfare, and was the most expensive car to be sold in India at that time. The first owner of the car was Mr. Rasiklal Manikchand Dharawi, the chairman of Manikchand group of companies, who bought it for his daughter at a price tag of Rs 5.6 crores.
Rolls Royce is not too far behind with its Phantom priced at 3.5 crores upwards in India.
BMW is also present in India with a whole range of models, and at a quick look I liked the BMW M6 Coupé the most. At about 80 lakhs they are down a notch from the cars above, but still at the high end of the premium version.
Let me end with the Audi R8, which looks awesome, and at slightly over 1 crore doesn’t come cheap either. Like the BMW and Mercedes, Audi has got quite a range of cars in India as well.
My favorite has always been the Mercedes, not that these other cars are any less awesome, but I’ve always had a thing for owning a Mercedes, and if I ever have the means I’ll probably go for that.
